Kannath Raymaker

To the west of the massive Gorean continent lies Thassa, a vast ocean. No one knows where Thassa ends or what might lie beyond it. The "World's End" is a term used to describe the area of Thassa that lies beyond the islands of Cos and Tyros. There are only a few small, close islands west of Cos and Tyros. It is a legendary place as no one has ever sailed there and returned. Some say that Thassa is endless. Others claim that it is protected by clashing rocks, monsters, and by mountains that can pull the nails from ships. Others say the end of the world is sheer and a ship might plunge over the edge, falling for days through emptiness, until fierce winds break it apart. In the maelstroms southwest of Tyros, shattered ship planking is sometimes found which adds to the mystery.

All of the islands of Gor are located on Thassa. There are about a dozen named islands and numerous small, unnamed islands as well. Most of the named islands are exchange islands, or free islands, whose ports are administered by the Merchant Caste. These exchange islands include Anango, Asperiche, Farnacium, Hulneth, Hunjer, Ianda, Scagnar, Skjern, Tabor and Teletus. Few of these islands are described in any detail. Other ports and islands are not managed by the Merchants but by magistrates appointed by the city council.

To the south and west of Tabor, due west of Asperiche, was once a small island called Samnium on which lived a scribe by the name of Marcus Antonelli for many long years with his kajirae of both genders and a handful of Freemen and Freewomen that were loyal to his House. In this land some 1,900 years ago a woman named Callidia Sellic was found outside the village that spoke of being on her way from her family's villa to a state dinner in the eternal city of Rome when she saw a bright flash of light, then found herself there. Callidia's native intelligence enchanted Marcus and they become Free Companions, rather than enslaving her as was the typical custom. Within the year she became quick with child, and gave birth to a son: Kannath Raymaker. But unfortunately, she perished in her travails. Marcus was heartbroken, but he poured out his love on that child, raising him with all the privilege and advantage of the blue caste, training him from his earliest days. His first girl, LeighKay (or simply kay), had the responsibility to look out for the boy's daily needs.

Word came to Samnium some nineteen years ago from Tabor that they were looking for a Chief Scribe, and Kannath took up the post and began his journey into the more cosmopolitan parts of Gor at that time. From Tabor, he dwelt in the city of Whitewater for a short time before taking up the mantle of Chief Scribe of Helmutsport. Then he returned to Samnium and built a thriving city he named Aquae Sulis that stood until the island sank beneath the waves some fifteen years past.

Since then, Kannath had wandered lost in the wilderness until just recently he stumbled upon Lara, Jewel of Gor, and found a new home to make his heart sing once more. (member since July 23, 2026)
