Gareth of The Caer

Chief Scribe and citizen of Caer Cadarn
Host of Garethisms and other ramblings. A long time discussion and music show wherein I speak my mind.
All things are parts of one single system, which is called Nature; the individual life is good when it is in harmony with Nature.
– Zeno of Citium
Early Life in Thentis: Gareth of the Caer was born in the bustling city of Thentis, a city known for its association with tarns, from breeding and racing to the mastery of tarn warfare, making it a key city. From an early age, Gareth displayed an insatiable curiosity and a profound love for learning. His parents, both minor scribes for the local courts, nurtured his intellect, teaching him the art of writing, reading, and the intricacies of the local laws and customs.
The Capture: Disaster struck when Gareth, in his late twenties, was on an exploratory journey seeking ancient texts rumored to be hidden in the ruins of a forgotten civilization. His expedition was ambushed by a band of Tuchuk warriors, renowned for their riding skills and nomadic lifestyle across the vast plains. Captured, Gareth found himself bound and taken as a prisoner to a Tuchuk camp, where he was initially treated with suspicion and harshness.
Life Among the Tuchuk: Despite the initial hostility, Gareth's unique skills soon became apparent. His ability to read, write, and understand multiple languages, including some ancient ones, caught the attention of the Tuchuk band’s leader, who saw potential in him. Over time, Gareth was not just learning about the Tuchuk's ways but also teaching them, sharing knowledge of the outside world, and helping to document their oral histories. His respect for their culture and his humility earned him a place among them. Eventually, through a ritual, Gareth was formally accepted into the band, taking on the role of something of a scribe, recording their stories, laws, and lineage working closely with the band’s shaman.
Move to Caer Cadarn: After years with the Tuchuk, Gareth felt a pull back to his roots in civilization, driven by a desire to share the wisdom he had gained from the nomads and to contribute to his culture. Bidding a heartfelt farewell to his adopted family, he returned to Caer Cadarn. His time with the Tuchuk had transformed him; he was no longer just the curious scribe but a man of wisdom, with tales of distant lands and a deep understanding of both the permanence of knowledge and the fluidity of culture.
A Respected Scribe: In Caer Cadarn, Gareth quickly established himself, with a newfound respect. He took up residence in the city's grand library, where he worked to preserve and expand the collection of knowledge. His experiences with the Tuchuk influenced his work profoundly. He advocated for cultural exchange, taught local scribes about the nomadic ways, and even introduced a system of mobile libraries, inspired by the Tuchuk's oral traditions. Gareth became known for his wisdom, often sought out by scholars, merchants, and even the city's rulers for advice on matters both mundane and profound. His life was a testament to the blending of cultures, showing that even in a world of free ports and nomads, the pen could be mightier than the sword, and knowledge could bind hearts across the vastest of plains.
